The official wage band, and why it is annual
Job Bank classifies this occupation under NOC 32201, Massage therapists. It publishes wages for this occupation at an annual rate, not per hour, because a large share of RMTs are self-employed and annual figures better represent real earnings. These are the official annual wages in Canada, low to high, updated November 19, 2025 (reference period 2021 Census).

Reading the band honestly
Three things are worth knowing so the numbers are not misread:
- It is annual because of self-employment. Job Bank presents this occupation annually on purpose, since so many RMTs work for themselves or on a clinic split. An hourly conversion would be misleading, so we do not do it.
- The low and the median are the same figure here. That is a census-data-binning artifact for a self-employed-heavy occupation, not an error. It means a large share of reported earnings sit at or near that lower band, which is consistent with part-time hours and variable client volume.
- Real earnings spread widely. Actual take-home depends heavily on client volume, hours worked, and the clinic fee split (many RMTs are paid a percentage of what they bill, not a salary). A busy, full-schedule RMT at a favourable split earns well above the median; a part-time or building practice earns below it.
What moves you up the band
- Registration and the RMT credential where regulation exists, and a strong clinical reputation
- Client volume and a full schedule, the single biggest driver of real earnings
- A favourable clinic fee split, or building an owned or associate practice
- Referral relationships with physiotherapy, chiropractic, and medical clinics
