Registered Massage Therapist Pay by Province in Canada 2026

What a registered massage therapist earns depends far more on client volume, hours, and the clinic fee split than on province, but the official band still varies by region. The table below shows the Job Bank annual wage band by province for 2026.

These are annual low-to-high bands from Job Bank Canada, classified under NOC 32201 (Massage therapists), updated November 19, 2025 (reference period 2021 Census). Job Bank publishes this occupation annually rather than hourly because a large share of RMTs are self-employed.

ProvinceAnnual low to high
British Columbia$38,779 to $81,000
Saskatchewan$34,747 to $67,500
Alberta$32,867 to $63,600
Ontario$37,561 to $57,200
New Brunswick$34,016 to $56,000
Nova Scotia$35,660 to $56,000
Manitoba$34,810 to $50,400
Quebec$34,137 to $49,200

Newfoundland and Labrador (median $36,400) and Prince Edward Island (median $40,800) publish a median only, with no low or high band. The Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and Yukon do not publish a band for this occupation.

Reading the table honestly

  • Annual, not hourly, and for a reason. The self-employment rate in this profession is high, so Job Bank reports annual earnings.
  • Where the low equals the median, that is a census-binning artifact, not an error. It reflects a self-employed-heavy occupation with many part-time and variable schedules, so a large share of earnings clusters at the lower band.
  • The fee split is the real story. Most RMTs are paid a percentage of what they bill. Real earnings rise with a full schedule and a favourable split, and sit lower while a practice is part-time or building.

What drives the spread

  • Client volume and hours, the single biggest factor
  • The clinic fee split, or moving to an owned or associate practice
  • Regional demand and rates, strongest in British Columbia
  • Regulation and reputation, which support rates where the RMT title is protected
